Newborn Screening Test
The main purpose of the Newborn Hearing Screening Test at LOR Hospital is to check the hearing ability of newborns at an early stage. At birth, a baby’s vision and hearing are not fully developed, but the hearing sense starts functioning immediately. Hearing impairment can significantly affect speech development, social interactions, and overall cognitive growth.
Who should undergo the screening test?
• Premature infants
• Babies with oxygen deprivation at birth (asphyxia)
• Family history of hearing problems
• Jaundice (high bilirubin levels)
• Infectious birth (CMV, toxoplasmosis, etc.)
Optimal time for screening:
• Between 3–28 days after birth (ideally within the first week)
