Septoplasty

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct the deviation of the nasal septum. The septum is a cartilage and bone structure that separates the nasal cavity into two parts. If it is deviated, it can cause nasal congestion, chronic infections, snoring, and breathing difficulties.
Septoplasty straightens the septum, opens the nasal passages, and improves breathing.
Who needs septoplasty?
Recommended for people with:
• Chronic nasal congestion (especially one-sided)
• Frequent sinus infections or nasal discharge
• Noisy breathing, mouth breathing
• Snoring and sleep apnea
• Severe allergic rhinitis
• Recurrent nosebleeds
• History of nasal trauma
What is septal deviation?
Deviation of the nasal septum to the right or left. Can be congenital or post-traumatic, causing functional issues:
• Improper airflow through nasal cavities
• Impaired ventilation of some sinuses
• Negative impact on middle ear pressure balance
How is the surgery performed?
• Under general or local anesthesia
• Performed through the inside of the nose (no external cuts)
• Corrects or removes bent cartilage or bone
• No cosmetic change (unless combined with rhinoplasty)
• Duration: 30–60 minutes
Recovery
• Normal activity in 1–2 days
• Nasal tampon or silicone splint may be placed
• Swelling, minor bleeding, congestion are normal initially
• Full recovery in 2–3 weeks
• Results usually permanent
Benefits
• Easier and free nasal breathing
• Relief from chronic nasal congestion
• Improved sleep quality and life comfort
• Reduced sinus and allergy problems
• Lower risk of snoring and apnea
• Voice quality improvement in some cases
FAQ

2. Will it hurt?
• Minimal pain, controlled with regular painkillers
3. How long does the nasal tampon stay?
• Usually 2–3 days. Modern silicone splints are more comfortable
