Arytenoidectomy

Arytenoidectomy is a surgical procedure in which part or all of the arytenoid cartilage in the larynx is removed to improve vocal cord function and airway patency.

Indications:
- Difficulty breathing due to vocal cord paralysis
- Laryngeal stenosis or narrowing
- When restoration of vocal cord mobility is not possible
- To widen the airway
- As an alternative to laryngectomy

Procedure:
- Performed under general anesthesia
- Endoscopic removal of the arytenoid cartilage from inside the larynx
- Airway enlargement is achieved
- Duration: 1–2 hours
- Patient stays in the clinic for several days after surgery
