Computer Tomography (CT)

Computer Tomography (CT)
Computed Tomography (CT) is a modern diagnostic imaging method that provides layered (cross-sectional) images of the internal structures of the body.
In ENT (ear, nose, throat) diagnostics, CT is widely used to evaluate bone and soft tissue abnormalities with high precision.
How is a CT scan performed?
1. The patient lies on a special CT scanner table.
2. The scan is completed within 3–5 minutes.
3. If contrast material is required, it is administered after doctor’s approval and necessary lab tests.
Most common ENT CT examinations
Paranasal sinus CT
Purpose:
• Chronic or acute sinusitis
• Nasal congestion
• Suspicion of cysts, polyps, or tumors in the sinuses
• Preoperative planning (e.g., FESS surgery)
Advantages:
• Unlike X-rays, it clearly visualizes both bone and soft tissues.
• Provides detailed images of sinus air levels, fluid accumulation, and structural changes.
Temporal bone CT (Ear and hearing pathways)
• Chronic middle ear infections
• Investigation of hearing loss causes
• Evaluation of congenital hearing defects in infants
• Preoperative assessment before cochlear implantation
Head and brain CT (in ENT-related conditions)
• Head and skull trauma
• Evaluation of the inner ear and vestibular system (dizziness, balance disorders)
• Headaches related to muscle or nerve disorders
