Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to improve the external appearance of the nose or its breathing function. Through this procedure, the size, shape, tip, bridge, and nostrils of the nose can be altered.
Rhinoplasty can be both aesthetic (for appearance) and functional (for breathing problems). In many cases, aesthetic surgery is combined with septoplasty in the same operation.
Who is suitable for rhinoplasty?
Recommended for individuals with:
- Dissatisfaction with the nose shape
- Thick, large, drooping, or asymmetrical nasal tip
- Crooked, prominent, or depressed nasal bones
- Unequal nostrils
- Deformity after nasal trauma
- Breathing difficulties due to deviated septum
How is the surgery performed?
- Under general anesthesia
- Performed using either open or closed technique
- Closed: through the inside of the nose, no visible scars
- Open: small incision at the base of the nose (minor scar possible)
- Nasal bones and cartilage are reshaped
- Duration: 1.5–3 hours
- Postoperative nasal splints or packing may be applied
Recovery process
- Week 1: splints removed, swelling and bruising start to reduce
- Weeks 2–3: breathing improves, initial nose shape visible
- 1–3 months: nasal shape settles
- Full result: 6–12 months
Benefits
- Symmetrical, aesthetic, natural-looking nose
- Harmonious with facial features
- Improved breathing (if septum correction performed)
- Increased self-confidence and psychological comfort
Possible risks
- Swelling and bruising (temporary)
- Temporary reduction in sense of smell
- Bleeding or infection (very rare)
Note: Risks are minimal when performed by an experienced ENT or plastic surgeon.
